What we collect, and what we don't.

Last reviewed: May 4, 2026

Short version

Robinn is a publishing site, not a data business. We don't sell your information. We don't run third-party advertising trackers. We collect the minimum we need to operate the site and the newsletter.

What we collect

Email address — only if you subscribe to the newsletter through one of the email capture forms on the site. We use this to send you the newsletter and any direct service communications related to it.

Standard server logs — when you visit any page, our hosting infrastructure records technical metadata including IP address, user-agent string, request URL, and timestamp. This is standard for any website and is used for security, abuse prevention, and aggregate performance monitoring. Logs are retained per our host's default retention policy.

Theme preference — your dark/light mode choice is stored in your browser's localStorage. It never leaves your device.

Calculator inputs — values you type into our calculators (income, mortgage rate, etc.) are processed in your browser only. We don't transmit calculator inputs to our servers.

What we don't collect

  • We don't use Google Analytics or similar third-party tracking pixels.
  • We don't set advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies.
  • We don't collect financial account numbers, social insurance numbers, or any sensitive identifiers.
  • We don't share, sell, rent, or trade your information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Service providers we rely on

Operating Robinn requires a small number of infrastructure providers. We use third-party services in the following categories:

  • Hosting and content delivery — to serve the site. May process standard request metadata (IP, user-agent, timestamp) for security and performance.
  • Content management — to store and publish the articles and tools you read. Doesn't process visitor data.
  • Email delivery — to send the newsletter to subscribers. Stores the email addresses subscribers voluntarily provide.
  • Public data sources — we read freely-available data from public Canadian government APIs (e.g., Bank of Canada, CRA published rate tables) to keep figures current. No visitor information is shared with these sources.

Each provider operates under its own privacy policy and is contractually obligated to handle data only as needed to deliver the service. We periodically review and may update our providers; we'll update this policy if the categories of providers change in a meaningful way. For specific provider information related to a particular request, contact us.

Cookies

We don't set tracking or marketing cookies. The only persistent data we store in your browser is your theme preference (dark/light), via localStorage, not a cookie. Our hosting infrastructure may set strictly-necessary technical cookies for things like edge routing, but no behavioural profiling occurs.

Your rights under PIPEDA and similar laws

Robinn is a Canadian site governed primarily by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you're in a region with stronger laws (such as the GDPR in the EU), we extend the same rights to you regardless. You can:

  • Ask what information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • Ask us to delete your information (subject to legal retention requirements).
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
  • Withdraw any consent you previously gave.

To exercise any of these, email us — see Contact below.

Children

Robinn is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 13. If you believe a minor has submitted information to us, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the “Last reviewed” date at the top and, for material changes, post a notice on the site.
